Honda Amaze Exterior

Let’s be honest, the Honda Amaze isn’t one of the first cars that would have come to your mind if we were to talk about compact sedan segment in India, a few months ago. Add to that the fact that most of the players in this segment have updated their offerings with new design and features, the Honda Amaze was in need of one as well. Now, the company has given it more than just an update as they have launched the all-new Amaze. We take a look.

Starting off from the exteriors, well, it doesn’t look anything like the older Amaze as that model took design inspiration from the Brio. Whereas the new Amaze has a design of its own. It looks a lot more aggressive and gives the impression of a proper sedan rather than a stretched hatchback and that’s largely due to one major reason, that is, the wheelbase. It is a significant 65mm more while the length of the car remains similar at slightly less than four metres. The stance is further amplified by the slightly banked-forward nose which adds a bit of character to the face of the car.

There is a strong shoulder line running across the length of the car and when you look at it from the back, the tail lights are rather simple and yet striking. They intrude into the boot lid and when you couple that with the shape of the boot lid, the car gives the impression of a wider car. But still, when you look at the car at certain angles, it does seem a bit unconventional and that can divide opinions. Overall, though, the car just feels a lot bigger from every angle and the story continues on to the inside as well. While the exterior design is a bit polarizing, once you are inside the cabin, you will forget everything.

Honda Amaze Interior

The cabin of the previous model was really unsatisfying until the facelift version came to the fore. But this second generation model takes a leaf out of the predecessor’s design book to create its own unique elements. The dual-tone dashboard is a big jump forward with nice texture given to the plastics to make it look premium. Certain elements such as climate control knobs, steering control and buttons are beautifully finished. The cleaner looking instrument cluster with two dials and one MID in the centre will be appreciated by the new buyers. The biggest improvement can be seen in the front seats which are adorned in highly quality fabrics and gets adjustable neck restraints. The revised seats are well contoured providing excellent support.

The center of attraction at the dashboard is the new Digipad infotainment system. It is smooth to operate and powered by Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The system also have inbuilt maps which gives pretty nice user experience. Below the climate control panel, you get access to charging point as well USB inputs. The car is nothing short of offering storage spaces with large sized pocket at each door, glovebox and center armrest at the rear with two cup holders.

The boot volume has been increased substantially by 20 liters which now totals to 420 liters, largest in its class. Other comfort features in the car include multi-functional steering wheel with audio and cruise control, engine start/stop button, paddle shifter, smart entry, automatic climate control and rear parking camera.

Honda Amaze Performance

We started the drive of the new Honda Amaze with the diesel manual version and later also drove about 70-75 kms of the diesel CVT variant. The CVT gearbox on the diesel Honda Amaze is probably the most exciting addition to the new car. While on paper the CVT’s (diesel) further underpowered and even not at par when compared to its petrol counterpart, it still has a nice fun element and is extremely smooth. The maximum torque is available at about 1500-3500 rpm and from there it is a smooth drive. The increase in wheelbase and width makes the new Amaze more planted and very stable. The handling of the diesel Amaze is a bit heavy but that adds to the overall stability. The NVH levels have been further improved upon the older generation Amaze but the noise the noise still persists, more on the CVT variant.

performance of the car. The diesel manual version of the 1.5L engine on the all-new Honda Amaze lives up to the reputation of a smooth and fun car to drive. The company now claims a mileage of 27.4 kmpl on the diesel manual variants and about 23.8 kmpl on the diesel CVT.The petrol manual variant of the new Amaze generates 19.5 kmpl of mileage, while the petrol CVT model generates 19 kmpl. On the other hand, the diesel manual variant offers 27.4 kmpl of fuel efficiency, while the diesel CVT generates 23.4 kmpl.

Honda Amaze Driving

What amazes the driver in the new Amaze is the fantastic ride quality. The new platform has allowed intense recalibration of the suspension system. As a result, the bad roads and undulation are hardly noticeable. While the suspension setup helps glide over poor surfaces with ease, on highways, it feels more poised and cocooned. In terms of performance and handling capacity, the new Amaze comes impressive compared to the old model. Honda has refined the handling of this car compared to the predecessor, while performance too has been improved.

Honda Amaze Safety

The brakes of the compact sedan come with a nice bite force. Further, the inclusion of ABS with EBD as standard fitment gives it more strength on the roads. Honda Amaze also gets dual airbags and ISOFIX rear child seat mounts as standard across the range. Other safety aspects in the car include engine immobilizer, rear parking sensors and impact mitigating headrests.
